REDD+ Safeguards: Practical Considerations for Developing a Summary of Information

REDD+ Safeguards: Practical Considerations for Developing a Summary of Information was developed by a team of independent expert authors convened by Meridian Institute.

The paper responds, and builds upon agreement already made under the UNFCCC, offering a pragmatic approach for countries to consider when preparing their safeguards summary of information for the UNFCCC. The authors solicited input on the paper’s content and framing with diverse stakeholders including those from indigenous peoples’ and non-governmental organizations, researchers, and forest and donor countries.

REDD+ refers to Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, including the conservation and sustainable management of forests as well as the enhancement of forest carbon stocks The paper development was funded by the Government of Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative, but it is not reviewed by, in support of, or reflecting Norwegian Government positions. It is the sole work of the authors.
