Meridian Online

A Partnership Between Meridian Institute and Dialogue by Design

Combining Face-to-Face Facilitation Experience With State of the Art Technology

The services and technology available through Meridian Online are the result of a partnership between Meridian Institute and Dialogue by Design two premier firms in the field of consensus building, mediation, consultative processes, and strategic planning. Meridian Online fuses together years of experience facilitating face-to-face processes with Dialogue by Design's Dialogue DX technology.

Meridian Online provides clients with unique online options for facilitating online dialogue and building consensus. The Dialogue DX technology allows us to conduct online dialogues that are most robust and meaningful than online dialogues managed using commonly available web forums or web conferencing software. This innovative tool is designed to be responsive and intuitive from the perspective of the participants while increasing efficiency for the project manager.

The Dialogue DX technology is also ideally suited for government agencies, companies, and other institutions that are seeking input on draft documents from dozens, hundreds, or thousands of individuals. We can efficiently receive, process, analyze and report on comments within days.

Meridian Institute clients now have an expanded array of options for achieving their objectives. We can design the most appropriate and cost-effective strategy for meeting a project's objectives, using both online and traditional face-to-face settings to accommodate the shifting needs of project participants and offer a variety of options for participating in a range of collaborative decision making processes.

In short, through Meridian Online, we provide an efficient, effective, and transparent means for organizations to consult with large and/or geographically dispersed groups of people in a way that:

  • Allows people to express what they think in their own words;
  • Removes the constraints of time and place;
  • Reduces the cost of collecting and analyzing the input provided;
  • Enables the scale of consultation to be significantly expanded without sacrificing the ability to respond to every participant;
  • Provides easy and transparent feedback to participants, increasing confidence in the results.

Advantages Over Traditional Face-to-Face Processes

  • Reduced cost of information collection.
  • Quicker processing of responses into a structured form that can be interpreted and communicated clearly and accurately.
  • Every input remains available for inspection, yielding a full audit trail.
  • Enhanced information accessibility promotes development of ideas, innovation, lesson learning and improved understanding among participants.
  • 'Time windows' for response allow participants to contribute at their convenience and encourage comprehensive and thoughtful input.
  • Anonymity of response, where appropriate, promotes honest contributions.

Advantages Over Common Internet-based Approaches To Dialogue

  • Responses are funneled to create ordered groups and themes, which significantly aids interpretation and communication of results.
  • Every contribution is logged onto a database to provide a full record of the process and a clear audit trail, enabling iterative feedback loops to be incorporated into the dialogue process.
  • he user interface is intuitive and viewing comments from other users or about particular sections, subjects, or themes is easy. While easy to use, a telephone and email "help line" is available.

What We Provide

  • We provide supporting materials and a telephone and e-mail help desk to ensure effective and inclusive participation.
  • We design and construct secure and user-friendly Internet consultation processes and data management systems that meet both clients' and participants' requirements.
  • We provide 'time windows', usually lasting 2-3 weeks, during which participants can contribute. At the end of each window we collate and structure participants' responses using a purpose-designed data management system. This allows both client and participants to explore easily even a very large volume of responses. They can review responses by subject heading, by theme, by sector of origin, or by individual participant. Responses can also be organized under group headings or by 'super grouping', which highlights areas of agreement or disagreement among participants. We can also provide statistical results from quantitative surveys.
  • Further iterations of the process as required, usually offering feedback to participants and further opportunities to develop or challenge ideas, prioritize results or evaluate the process.
  • We can normally provide a response document summarizing a whole consultation process within ten days of its completion.
