Water Quality Standards for Effluent-Dependent Water in the Arid West

Related: Environment and Natural Resources

The US Environmental Protection Agency engaged Meridian Institute to convene and facilitate two meetings to develop recommendations or options for addressing questions relating to appropriate water-quality standards for use in effluent-dependent waters in the arid West. The recommendations or options were designed to inform state and Tribal program managers active in the region. The first meeting involved approximately 35 water regulators and other agency staff at the federal and state levels; the second involved approximately 40 individuals representing citizen and environmental advocacy organizations, fish and wildlife interests, local governments, and the regulated community.
