Global Forum for Rural Advisory Service's Global Good Practices Consultation

Related: Agriculture and Food Systems

Meridian Institute facilitated the Global Forum for Rural Advisory Service's (GFRAS) Global Good Practices Consultation in Washington, DC, June 4-5, 2012. This Consultation began the process of providing best practices for international agricultural extension, including:

  • A framework and typology for identifying and analyzing good extension approaches

  • Cases of promising extension approaches

  • Analyses and evaluations—evidence on why approaches work or don’t

  • Data and resources

  • Guides on how to implement and evaluate extension

  • Briefs on key ingredients of good extension

  • Global directory of “who, what, and how” for extension and access to knowledge—linking to people and organizations who can provide answers

Promising approaches in key countries in Africa and South Asia were examined, as well as activities (through partners) in Latin America and the greater Asian region. The GFRAS played the role of coordinator and convenor, bringing together global partners and GFRAS regional networks to get to ground level.
