Meridian Institute

Foundation Working Group on Food and Agriculture Policy

Related: Agriculture and Food Systems

In 2008, a broad and diverse group of U.S.-based foundations came together with the bold idea of supporting comprehensive policy reform and actions by the private sector, NGOs, and the philanthropic community that could address present and future challenges surrounding food, nutrition, environmental quality, and rural development in America and abroad.

After more than 18 months of discussion that included external stakeholders, this idea led in 2011 to the launch of AGree: Transforming Food and Agriculture (www.foodandagpolicy.org).
AGree seeks to drive positive change in the global food and agriculture system by connecting and challenging leaders from diverse communities to catalyze action and elevate food and agriculture as a national priority.

The AGree initiative is housed at Meridian Institute and leverages Meridian’s strategic consultation, convening, and facilitation expertise. AGree has received support from the following foundations:

· Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,
· Ford Foundation,
· Rockefeller Foundation,
· David and Lucile Packard Foundation,
· McKnight Foundation,
· Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,
· Walton Family Foundation,
· William and Flora Hewlett Foundation,
· W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and
· Surdna Foundation.
