Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa Supports Regional Aflatoxin Control Planning

Thursday, March 13, 2014

The Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa recently partnered with two Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in Africa to convene regional workshops to develop actions plans for aflatoxin control activities in West Africa and East and Southern Africa.
The first regional workshop was 18-20 November 2013 in Accra Ghana and was organized by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in partnership with the African Union Commission and other partners. The second regional workshop was held 11-13 March in Lilongwe, Malawi. It was organized by the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the African Union Commission, and other partners. Both workshops brought together experts and high-level decision makers on trade, health, and agriculture to share information about aflatoxin prevalence and current mitigation efforts, identify regional priorities, and developed regional action plans to enhance trade and improve consumer health.
