Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA) Strategy Development Stakeholder Consultation Workshop

Monday, April 08, 2013 - Holly Dobson

PACA conducted a Steering Committee meeting on 8 - 9 April 2013, followed by a Strategy Development Stakeholder Consultation Workshop from 10-12 April  in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.  The Strategy Workshop engaged scientific and technical experts from agriculture and food security, trade, and health to identify critical actions for aflatoxin control in Africa and provide input on the strategic direction of PACA. This meeting was co-hosted by the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA), Nelson Mandela African Institute for Science and Technology (NM-AIST), and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).  Objectives of the Strategy Development Workshop are to: bring together continent-wide technical knowledge and expertise on aflatoxin; understand PACA’s work to date and provide input on PACA’s strategy and future direction; prioritize specific intervention activities, based on agreed upon criteria; and develop key results areas for action. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Ed Rege and his team at The Institute for People, Innovation and Change in Organizations – Eastern Africa (PICO-Eastern Africa) (www.picoteam.org).  For more information, please visit the PACA website (www.aflatoxinpartnership.org/) or contact the PACA Secretariat at:  info@aflatoxinpartnership.org.
