Better Growth with Forests Press Briefing with TFA 2020

Thursday, May 05, 2016

Climate Action 2016: Catalyzing a Sustainable Future is a multi-stakeholder summit that took place on May 5-6, 2016; two weeks after the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement, and eight months after the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals by all the governments of the world.  In this context, the summit served to strengthen the multi-stakeholder approach to climate implementation. Over the course of two days, the summit drove high-level engagement with global luminaries addressing plenary sessions on how to deliver on climate commitments and embed the transformation agenda across the globe in government, key sectors and among the general population. At the same time, the summit focused on convening working groups for sessions on near-term implementation actions and long-term implementation needs. These focused on City and Sub-national implementation; Transport; Land-use; Energy; Resilience/Adaptation; and Analysis and Tools to Support Decision Making.

Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 and Meridian Institute convened a press briefing on the margins of the Climate Action 2016 event on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Meridian Institute's Washington, DC office on “Climate Action and Forests: Public-Private Partnerships for Better Growth with Forests”.

Panelists highlighted progress and challenges for how public-private partnerships can protect forests effectively. Participants and media will have the opportunity to ask questions on the record.
