Michael T. Lesnick, Ph.D.

Dr. Michael Lesnick is a founder and Senior Partner of the Meridian Institute. He has over twenty-five years of experience designing and facilitating collaborative processes and strategy assessment and planning activities.

Dr. Lesnick has worked domestically and internationally across a range of issues including: environmental quality, national and homeland security, international development, science and technology policy, agriculture, public health, natural resource management, and sustainable development. His work with decision makers and stakeholders from government, corporations, civil society, international organizations, and scientific bodies has focused on bringing practical solutions to some of society’s most controversial and complex problems such as: the clean-up of chemical weapons and nuclear weapons sites; disaster planning, response and recovery; sustainable forestry and agriculture policies and practices; the role of biotechnology and nanotechnology in developed and developing countries; complex ecosystem management; technology visioning and application for national security and homeland security; trade and intellectual property rights; and corporate governance and sustainability. His work in these and other areas has been at the site-specific, national policy and international policy levels involving negotiations, dialogues, advisory committees, and problem-solving processes.

Dr. Lesnick also has extensive experience working with the executive leadership of public and private organizations to help them strategically assess and understand key factors in the external environment critical to long term strategy and to assist them in building an internal agreement on the direction for organizational change. He has worked with senior executives from foundations, corporations, government agencies, research institutes, and global associations to develop strategic planning processes that anticipate emerging external issues and dynamics critical to the future success of the organization and to productively engage internal and external stakeholders in the strategic planning process.

Dr. Lesnick has authored a variety of publications in the area of conflict management and collaborative problem-solving. He is a visiting Senior Fellow at the Vanderbilt University Institute for Public Policy Studies and a member of the National Advisory Committee of the Center for Sustainable Enterprise at the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School. He completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Natural Resource Policy and Management and was a Post Doctoral Fellow in Environmental Dispute Resolution at the University of Michigan, School of Natural Resources.
