    Meridian Senior Mediator and Program Director, Rex Raimond, wrote a guest commentary for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, as part of the Council’s blog series Growing Food for Growing Cities. The blog post, Addressing Food Safety in Developing Supply Chains , addresses urbanization and supply chain changes; the important role that governments play in enabling growth through policies and investments; as well as challenges and reasons for optimism in food safety issues.

  • EPA Climate Ready Water Utilities Initiative in 2015

    In 2015, Meridian Institute continued its work with the Climate Ready Water Utilities (CRWU) Initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In particular, Meridian supported the development of the third version of the CRWU’s Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool, known as CREAT 3.0. CREAT is a risk assessment tool that allows water utilities to access climate data, evaluate the potential impacts of climate change on their assets, and identify adaptation options to address impacts using both traditional risk assessment and scenario-based methods. Over the course of 2015, Meridian provided facilitation support for a series of CRWU-sponsored meetings across the nation aimed at refining the design of CREAT 3.0 and training water utility operators on the tool.

In 2015, the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative (JOCI) brought together federal, state, and local government representatives, leading scientists, and experts from key industries for two Ocean Leadership Roundtables—one focused on the Arctic and one on the U.S. East Coast.

    Throughout 2015, Meridian Institute continued to assist the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa (PACA) in its efforts to help control aflatoxins. (Aflatoxins are organic compounds produced by mold that are highly toxic to humans and animals. Aflatoxin-producing molds affect grain and other food crops—maize and groundnuts in particular—in Africa.) The PACA Steering Committee (SC) convened in Nairobi, Kenya, in February 2015 to report on progress and authorize activities for the year.
