Nanotechnology Center Planned to Spur Energy Innovation and Job Creation
Summary posted by Meridian on 1/30/2009 A new facility located near Houston, Texas, is actively promoting itself as an ideal candidate for receiving funds under the economic stimulus package currently being debated in the United States Congress. The facility, the Nano World Headquarters (NWHQ), promises to serve as the leading global center for scientific nanotechnology collaboration and as an accelerator for start-up companies, as well as a national solution for economic recovery. The project is expected to create 900 jobs in 2009 and over 30,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs by 2015. The NWHQ hopes to propel the United States forward as a global leader in nanotechnology innovation and commercialization, and compete with China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, countries that it says are investing heavily in nanotechnology. "Nanotechnology advancement requires the collaboration of various disciplines - including chemistry, physics, biology, and engineering - as well as financial and technical support systems to take nanotechnology solutions from concept to development and commercialization," explains Valerie Moore, NWHQ Executive Director. "We are pleased that all of these elements come together at the Nano World Headquarters, promising unprecedented progress in nanotechnology." The article can be viewed online at the link below.
