US-Ukraine Nanotechnology Research Center to Focus on Energy Efficiency
Summary posted by Meridian on 12/23/2008 A new research center in Ukraine will focus on fundamental and applied research in nanotechnology for energy efficiency such as cathode, solar-electric and thermoelectric materials. The center will be located at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University in Ivano-Frankivsk and is a joint project of the United States Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Ministry of Ukraine for Education and Science (MESU). It is part of the bilateral CREST program (Cooperation in Research, Education, Science and Technology), which aims to accelerate the transition of Ukraine to a knowledge-based economy through reinvigorating scientific research and higher education. The new center, "Nanomaterials in Energy Generation and Accumulation Devices," is set to open in January of 2009. The article can be viewed online at the link below.
